The Half Step shows a ton of energy. Garcia is so excited during his second solo, he doesn't make it back to the microphone in time for the next verse. But, alas, amidst the main jam, the recording eats itself and splices to the end of the "Rio Grande" chorus. What follows is a short jam, and then Franklin's begins (the whole Half Step here is only 5:31).
Franklin's is ordinary, except for the end. At
7:30 things start to get interesting. Weir unleashes some great chords, and a unique little jam emerges. At
9:19 Garcia loudly restates the theme, and they finish it off by
9:50 (a minute and a half later they start up Music).
